What is SEO and what does it stand for?
SEO is an online marketing discipline where the goal is to increase the number of relevant website visitors via search engines. SEO therefore enables you to attract more visitors to your website. And the best thing is: it’s completely free :-). You pay nothing to Google for it.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. In Dutch it is also called search engine optimization. With SEO you influence various factors that improve the rankings of your website on Google. Read on for an explanation of the most important SEO terms and to learn what it takes to get more Google traffic!
How important is SEO?
We may be a bit biased, so take the following sentence with a small grain of salt, but if you ask us:
SEO is the most important channel for your website!
Why do we think so? Below are some arguments:
Most successful websites get more than 50% of their traffic from SEO (Google’s unpaid traffic). In fact, there are companies that live off SEO and don’t even need to spend money on advertising.
The organic (SEO) traffic is almost always better quality than traffic from Google Ads (SEA) and Social Media. The conversion and average session duration are higher and the bounce rate is lower. This is evident from practical experience with our customers.
You do not pay for every click or impression, as with advertisements.
It takes time and energy to get SEO going, but once it does it has a true flywheel effect: It takes effort to get going, but once it’s up and running, there’s no stopping it!
Do you want to do SEO (partly) yourself? Then it is important not to just start somewhere, but to work well prepared. Only then will you get the most out of SEO optimization. How hard is SEO?
Is it hard to learn SEO, you may ask yourself? The answer is: it depends. Some people find SEO difficult, but that is certainly not the case for everyone. What is it then? If you can answer the following questions with ‘yes’, then SEO is not that difficult at all:
Are you prepared to regularly keep up with recent developments in the field of SEO?
Are you willing to delve into what your potential customer really wants and is looking for on the internet and act accordingly?
Do you have any technical knowledge or affinity with web technology? (the latter is optional if you have a good web builder who understands what is important for SEO)
SEO can seem dizzying when you’re just starting out: there is quite a bit of professional jargon involved, it is sometimes on the cutting edge of marketing and technology and the developments at Google – including in SEO – never stand still.
When you are willing to:
To absorb the jargon (unfortunately this is necessary),
Really immerse yourself in the matter
Keeping up with developments
Then SEO is not difficult, promise! However, it does take a lot of time and energy to get it right, but that goes for anything worthwhile in life, right? ;).
How does SEO work?
Let’s start at the beginning: how does SEO work? Is it a trick? Is it magic? If you think so, then unfortunately we have to disappoint you. A long time ago, SEO activities were indeed a kind of tricks that you performed as a marketer, it was not very difficult to get results back then. Today, however, search engines are so intelligent (yes, you read that right) that you will only succeed if you work hard and do a lot of good.
How to apply SEO to achieve success?
How should you apply SEO to do it right, you may ask yourself? In short, there are four things you need to do well to attract visitors to your website through search engines.
